Duolingo Interactive reading or Reading section has been added in the Duolingo English Test in the year 2022. Here are some key points to know about the Reading section in the Duolingo English Test.
- 6-8 minutes time
- 6 slides to complete
- Skim through the passage to get the main idea.Focus on the keywords in the passage and try to remember them.
- Start looking for the options/answers in the dropdown as soon as the text starts making sense.
- Make sure the options you choose makes sense when you read the passage.
- The first slide of the reading section can take longer than the others.So you might need to spend more time on the first slide.
- Some of the blanks might be easier to fill out than the others.
- You will find the clues to the answers in the passage.
Here is a brief information about what kind of questions each slide in the reading section contains.
Duolingo Reading Section Slide 1: Select the best option for each missing word
For Reading section slide 1, you might need to spend more time than all slides in the section. It contains a paragraph with some missing words. You will be given a dropdown menu of words to choose from and fill in the blank spaces. Since the time for all sides is 7-8 minutes. You should aim to complete slide 1 in 2 minute or so.
Slide 2:Select the best sentence to fill in the blank
Slide 2 contains the same paragraph but this time it is complete with all the correct options. You can see if your answers to the missing words were correct in the previous slide.
This slide will have one blank space for a missing sentence and there will be option sentences to choose from. You will choose the sentence which fits in the space logically.
Slide 3, 4: Click and drag the text to highlight the answer to the question below
Duolingo Reading section slide 3, 4 ask you a question which can be found in the text. You only need to highlight the text where the answer is, and it will appear in the answer slot.
Slide 5: Select the main idea that is expressed in the passage
This question aims to gauge your understanding of the main theme of the passage. You will get 4 statements to choose the main ideas of the passage from.
Slide 6: Select the best title of the passage
Again you will get four options on the left side of the passage. You can read the passage again to find which title suits the best.
